Paul’s Epistle to Rome: A Journey of Unity, Service, and Hope

There was once a man named Paul, the Apostle, who preached the Gospel far and wide. He wrote to his supportive community in Rome, offering them his guidance and sharing his thoughts and feelings. He began by expressing his sense of responsibility, “We, who are strong, are charged with the care of the weak. We must not seek our pleasure but the benefit of others, for their good and edification, imitating Christ himself, who bore our reproaches.”

Paul reminded them of the words written in the scriptures. These words were not meaningless. They are there for our learning, through which we are given hope. He asked God, the source of patience and comfort, to fill them with unity, just as Christ Jesus taught. With unity, their voices as one, they could honor God and our Lord Jesus Christ.

Just as Christ embraced all of us for God’s glory, Paul asked them to welcome and accept each other. He emphasized the vital role Christ played, confirming the promises made to their ancestors, ministering circumcision, and bringing in the Gentiles – the non-Jewish people to glorify God’s mercy.

Even so, Paul cited the Old Testament scrip about the Gentiles praising God and rejoicing with His people, moving towards a time where a descendant of Jesse, Christ, would come to rule the Gentiles, in whom they would find hope.

Paul prayed to God, the source of hope, to fill them with joy and peace, so they could have an abundant hope in the Holy Spirit. He held a deep belief; he saw his brethren filled with goodness, knowledge, and the ability to uplift each other. He felt bold to write to them, reminding them of God’s grace, the reason he serves Christ. As a minister to the Gentiles, Paul worked to make them acceptable in God’s eyes, sanctified by the Holy Spirit.

Paul shared his delight in serving Christ, discussing his work among the Gentiles, made possible through Christ’s power, showcasing signs, wonders, and the Holy Spirit. His mission took him from Jerusalem to Illyricum, spreading the word of Christ. He endeavored to go where Christ’s name was unheard, fulfilling the prophecy about those not knowing Him will understand.

Next, Paul expressed his yearning to visit them, but circumstances kept him from doing so. He longed to journey to Spain and hoped to see them on his way. But first, he was headed to Jerusalem to serve the saints.

In Macedonia and Achaia, it was decided to support the poor saints in Jerusalem. It was their pleasure to supply spiritual nourishment to the Gentiles, in this way, Paul believed they also owe them material support. Once he delivered this help, he would embark on his journey to Spain via Rome. Paul was confident that when he arrived in Rome, he’d bring the blessing of Christ.

Paul urged them to join him in prayer, asking for deliverance from the disobedient in Judea, and that his service to Jerusalem may be appreciated by the saints. His wish was to visit them in joy, through the will of God, and find rest with them. In conclusion, he sent them his blessings, wishing the God of peace to be with them all. The end of his missive echoed with a strong ‘Amen.’
