The divine assembly gathered in a heavenly congregation, God, in His grand majesty, stood in the midst of it. He looked over the gods and his celestial creations, His justice resounding in every corner of the universe. He, the Most High, in His wisdom and power, was the ultimate judge among the gods. Yet, His divine judgment was tainted with grief, for injustice had crept into the hearts of gods and men. He questioned them, “How long will ye judge unjustly, and respect the persons of the wicked?”
“Have you forgotten your duty to the poor and fatherless?” He continued. “To do justice to the afflicted and the destitute? To extend your hands to rescue the poor and needy, to pull them from the destructive clutches of the wicked?”
His voice resonated with the power of thunder. The assembled gods bowed their heads; they knew not and did not understand the depths of their transgressions. They wandered aimlessly in the darkness of their own ignorance, shaking the very foundations of the earth.
Yet, in His abounding love and mercy, the Most High did not cast them away. Instead, He aimed to enlighten them. “I said, ‘Ye are gods, and all of you sons of the Most High.’ Yet, if you continue on this path, you will face consequences. Your divine immortality will be stripped away; you will face death like men. Like the fall of a once mighty prince, you too will experience descent.”
Silence fell over the divine assembly as the weight of His words sank in. The gods, sons of the Most High, grappled with the magnitude of their responsibilities and the consequences of failing to uphold them. Their hearts were heavy with regret and a newfound understanding of their role in this divine play.
With His final words, God, the Most High, commanded them to rectify their wrongs and uphold justice once more. “Arise, O Gods, judge the earth righteously; for thou shalt inherit all nations. Remember, as my sons, it is your duty to maintain balance, justice, and righteousness on the earth. Now, go forth and mend the errors of your ways.”
Thus, the psalm of Asaph echoed through the ages, reminding us of God’s mercy, His judgment, and His capacity to restore those who have erred. It serves as a call for justice and righteousness from all who are in a position of power and influence, urging them to use their authority wisely and for the betterment of humanity.
